Parking for a concert at Twickenham

Same car parks, same road closures, different clock. A gig moves everything three hours later and adds a queue for the last train.

No concerts are on our list right now. The stadium's licence currently allows a handful of concerts a year, and the RFU has applied to hold more. When one is announced we add an event page with the car parks that are open for it.

What is the same as a match day

What is different

The timing

Doors for a stadium show are usually around 5pm, support at 7-ish, the main act at 8.30 or 9, finish by 10.30pm. So the pattern is a match day shifted late: roads close mid-afternoon, the crowd arrives over three hours in the evening rush, and everyone leaves at once at half ten. The closures after the show run to midnight or later, and the car parks inside them can't leave until then.

Which car parks open

The school and scout car parks are run by volunteers who have to staff the gate until midnight, so not all of them open for concerts. The ones that do tend to sell out because there are fewer of them and a concert crowd drives more than a rugby one. Book early, and check the car park page or their site for the specific date. Driveways and the council car park don't have that problem: Arragon Road multi-storey is open until late and is 25 minutes' walk from the ground.

The walk back in the dark

A 20 minute walk to a Whitton school car park is easy at 3pm in November. At 11pm it is an unlit residential walk with 50,000 people heading the same way. It is safe (the crowd is the safety), but wear shoes you can walk in, and agree a meeting point before the show if your group might split.

Trains

Twickenham station runs a queuing system after big events, and after a concert it can take an hour to get onto a platform. Waterloo services run past midnight; services to Reading, Windsor and around the Teddington loop finish earlier, and a Sunday show is worse. If you are relying on a last train, check the exact date on National Rail and have a Plan B, which is usually walking to St Margarets or Whitton for a quieter platform.

The concert plan that works

  1. Park on your side of the ground, facing home. See getting out after the match: everything in it applies, three hours later.
  2. Arrive before the closures, which for an evening show means mid-afternoon. Use the extra time in the pubs: pubs and food near the car parks.
  3. Check the car park's closing time. “Two hours after the event” means about 12.30am. If the car park says 11pm, it isn't a concert car park.
  4. Pick-ups at the Stoop, on the A316, not at the station: drop-off and pick-up. Book the taxi for at least an hour after the finish.
  5. Don't chase the sat-nav through the closed roads afterwards. Head for the A316 and let it re-route.

Coaches and minibuses

The same handful of school car parks take coaches for concerts as for rugby, when they open at all, and the Rosebine Avenue car park on the A316 is sold through the event ticketing. Read coach and minibus parking and book early: concert coach parking goes faster than rugby coach parking.

Questions drivers ask

Can I park at Twickenham Stadium for a concert?
Yes, but as with rugby it is pre-book only, through the event’s ticketing site. Many of the school, scout and church car parks open for concerts too, but not all of them do, so check the car park page or their booking site for the date rather than assuming.
Do the roads close for concerts at Twickenham?
Yes. The same roads close (Rugby Road, the stadium end of Whitton Road, and London Road from King Street) and the event-day parking zone runs 11am to 11pm on concert days exactly as on match days. Because concerts finish late, the closures after the show run towards midnight.
What time do concerts at Twickenham finish?
Stadium concerts in London usually finish by 10.30pm to comply with the venue’s licence. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours after that to be moving freely by car, which means home after midnight for most people.
What is the last train from Twickenham after a concert?
Trains to Waterloo run until after midnight on most nights, but the last ones to Reading, Windsor and the Teddington loop go earlier. Check the timetable for the exact date and be prepared for the station queue, which after a concert can take an hour to clear.
