Pubs and food near the Twickenham car parks
The best matchday plan starts with the pub and works backwards to the car park. Here is the map in words.

Whitton (west side, M3 and A316)
Goes with: the school, scout and church car parks in Whitton: Nelson Primary, St Edmund's, 1st and 2nd Whitton Scouts, Turing House, Chatsworth, Twickenham School and St Augustine's.
Whitton is a proper suburb with a high street, so it has locals rather than rugby pubs, and that is its charm: you can get a table. The pubs along Nelson Road and the High Street (the Admiral Nelson and the Prince Albert among them) are five minutes from the Nelson Road car parks and put screens and food on for the big matches. Down at the A316 end, the pubs around Hospital Bridge Road and Chertsey Road are the natural stop for Twickenham School and St Augustine's. Whitton High Street also has the usual cafés, chippies and takeaways for the walk back.
The car parks themselves: 2nd Whitton Scouts does hot drinks after the match, and several of the PTA car parks run a tea-and-bacon-roll table before it. Toilets are listed on each car park page.
St Margarets (east side, from London)
Goes with: Orleans Park School (Parking4Twickenham), All Hallows church on Erncroft Way, Queen's Road, and the driveways in St Margarets.
St Margarets has the good village pubs. The Turk's Head on Winchester Road and the Crown on Richmond Road are both a few minutes from the station and 15 from the ground, with gardens that fill early on a sunny day. The Crown is next door to the Orleans Park car park entrance, which makes that car park the easiest pub-to-gate-to-pub plan on the whole list. Crown Road has cafés and a couple of decent places for a sit-down meal afterwards while the A316 empties.
Twickenham: London Road, Church Street and the riverside (south, town centre)
Goes with: Arragon Road multi-storey, the town centre driveways, and anyone arriving by train.
This is rugby pub country. The Cabbage Patch on London Road is the one everyone has heard of: a shrine to the game, packed from opening on international days, ten minutes' walk up to the stadium with the crowd. Church Street, the pedestrian lane off King Street, has the Fox (300 years old, real ale, food) and the Eel Pie (refurbished in 2026), and on match days it is one long outdoor bar. Down on the Embankment by the river, the Barmy Arms and the White Swan are the escape from the rugby crowd, with tables on the water; give the White Swan's tide table a glance, because the river comes up over the road.
Food: King Street and Church Street have everything from pizza to Thai, and the queue for the chippy on the way back to the station is a Twickenham tradition.
Twickenham Green and Staines Road (south west)
Goes with: Trafalgar Schools PTA, Archdeacon Cambridge's School and the driveways around the Green.
The Prince Blucher on the Green is the family-friendly pub with a big garden, and on a match day the Green in front of it becomes a picnic. Along Staines Road the Sussex Arms is the beer pub, with a long list of independent ales and a garden; it is a mile from the ground, which is exactly why you can get in. Twickenham Brewery on Mereway Road has opened a matchday bar for England games in past seasons; check their site for the fixture.
Richmond (if you parked and rode)
Goes with: the Richmond council car parks and the RFU shuttle: see park and ride.
Richmond is where to make an evening of it. Riverside pubs along the towpath, restaurants on Hill Rise and the Green, and by the time you have eaten, the roads and trains are normal. The walk back from the stadium to Richmond along the A316 and through St Margarets is 45 minutes and flat, and you pass the St Margarets pubs on the way if 45 minutes is too long.
Matchday manners
- The busiest pubs ticket the biggest days. Wristbands, a door charge or a pre-booked session for the Six Nations and the All Blacks. The pubs' own social media in match week is the source.
- Pub car parks are for pub customers, are tiny, and are inside the event zone. Don't plan to park at the pub.
- Check your car park's closing time before the second post-match pint. Most give you two hours after the final whistle, the church car park one. See getting out after the match.
- Someone is driving. Most car parks say cars are left at the owner's risk, and the police are on the A316.
Work out the timing with the matchday timeline: for a 3pm kick-off, parked by 12.30 gives you an hour and a half in the pub before the walk in.
Questions drivers ask
- What is the best pub near Twickenham Stadium on a match day?
- The Cabbage Patch on London Road is the famous one: memorabilia on every wall, a big crowd and a walk of ten minutes to the gates. If you want to be able to hear yourself, Whitton’s pubs and the riverside in Twickenham are quieter and go with the car parks on that side.
- Which pubs are near the Whitton car parks?
- Whitton High Street and Nelson Road have several locals within a few minutes of the school and scout car parks, and the pubs by the A316 at the Hospital Bridge Road end are handy for Twickenham School and St Augustine’s. Most put on food and screens on match days.
- Can I eat at the car park?
- Some of the community car parks do tea, coffee and bacon rolls before the match and hot drinks after, run by the same volunteers as the gate. 2nd Whitton Scouts is known for it. Each car park page says whether there are toilets; food is a bonus, not a promise.
- Do Twickenham pubs charge entry on match days?
- A few of the busiest run ticketed sessions or wristbands for the biggest internationals, and several open beer tents in their gardens. Check the pub’s own social media in the week before a Six Nations match; on smaller fixtures everything is walk-in.
