Drop-off and pick-up points at Twickenham

Nobody minds a quick drop-off on a normal day. On a match day the roads by the gates are closed and the streets around them are a no-parking zone, so you need the one place that works.

Next match: England v Australia, Sun, 8 Nov 2026, kick-off 15:10. Roads around the ground close from about 13:10; use the Stoop after that.

The one address to know

Twickenham Stoop, Langhorn Drive, TW2 7SX. Harlequins' ground, on the A316 directly opposite the stadium. The stadium designates it as the drop-off and pick-up point for taxis, private hire and ride-hailing on match days, and the apps geo-fence pick-ups there so drivers aren't sent into the closed roads. From the Stoop to the West Stand gates is a few hundred metres across the A316 footbridge or the crossing at the Whitton Road roundabout.

It works because the A316 doesn't close. Cars can get in and out of the Stoop from the westbound carriageway whatever is happening on Whitton Road.

Before the roads close

The closures start about two hours before kick-off. Before that, Whitton Road and Rugby Road are ordinary streets and a 30-second drop by the gates is fine, provided you aren't stopping in a bus stop, on the zig-zags of a crossing or in a residents' bay (the event zone runs from 11am and stopping in a bay counts as parking). If someone in the car needs a short walk, this is the window: see accessible parking.

After the roads close

Everything inside the closures is on foot. Your options for dropping people:

Don't: turn into Rugby Road or Whitton Road from the roundabout (they are coned), stop on the A316 itself, or use the bus stops on Chertsey Road.

Pick-up after the match

This is the one that goes wrong. Everyone leaves at once, the closed roads stay shut for 1.5 to 2 hours, and the phone signal near the ground is poor for the first half hour. What works:

  1. Agree the Stoop as the meeting point and a time at least 60 minutes after the final whistle (90 for a full house). Book the taxi for that time, not for the whistle.
  2. If the driver is coming from the west (M3 side), the Stoop is easy: A316 westbound. From the east, they will queue through Richmond; consider meeting in St Margarets instead, which is on their side and clears faster.
  3. The driver should not follow the sat-nav to the stadium postcode. It routes through the closed roads. Give them “Twickenham Stoop, TW2 7SX”.
  4. Wait somewhere warm. The Stoop area has no shelter; the pubs on the A316 side of Whitton do.

Taxis and private hire

Coaches and minibuses

Same point: coaches drop and collect at the Stoop, and park elsewhere in between. See coach and minibus parking.

If you are the driver and want to stay

Then you want a car park, not a drop-off: the Stoop's own car park is pre-reserved on international days and not a public option. Compare every car park by walk time, or park facing home and read getting out after the match.

Questions drivers ask

Where do Ubers drop off at Twickenham Stadium?
On match days ride-hailing apps are geo-fenced to the Twickenham Stoop, TW2 7SX, Harlequins’ ground on the A316 directly opposite the stadium. Set that as the destination and the app will take you there. It is a few minutes’ walk to the West Stand gates.
Can I drop someone off outside Twickenham Stadium?
Until about two hours before kick-off you can stop briefly on Whitton Road or Rugby Road like any other road, as long as you are not in a bus stop, on the zig-zags or in a residents’ bay. Once the road closures start, those roads are shut and the drop-off point is the Stoop on the A316.
Where is the taxi rank at Twickenham?
The nearest black-cab rank is on London Road, towards the town centre. After a match, the practical pick-up point for booked cars is the Stoop on the A316; arrange it for at least an hour after the final whistle.
Can I pick someone up at Twickenham station after the match?
Not sensibly. London Road between the station and the stadium is closed, the station forecourt is inside the crowd control area, and the streets around it are the event zone. Meet at the Stoop, or further out in St Margarets or Whitton.
