What's different in the autumn
They sell out
Autumn is when the stadium is full and the car parks go first. The pattern from previous seasons: anything under 10 minutes' walk goes a week or two out for New Zealand, Australia and South Africa; the 15 to 20 minute school car parks in Whitton go in the last week; Arragon Road multi-storey and the outer driveways are the day-of fallback. From this season we are recording exactly when each car park sells out for each match, so next autumn the pages can say so. For now: book when you book the tickets. See prices and sell-out timing.
Evening kick-offs and the dark
A 4.40pm kick-off finishes around 6.20pm in full darkness. The walk back to Whitton or St Margarets is 20 minutes of unlit residential streets in a crowd (safe, but wear shoes and bring a torch for the field car parks), the roads reopen around 8.30pm, and the community car parks close at 8.30 or 9. Parking on the A316 side (Twickenham School, St Augustine's, Rosebine) means you can leave at the whistle with the heater on. Read getting out after the match.
Finals weekends
When the autumn ends with a Friday-to-Sunday finals weekend, the Friday match is an evening kick-off in the rush hour: the A316 is at its worst, and the car parks that open for a weekday evening are fewer (school car parks can't open until the school day ends). Saturday is the classic. Sunday has fewer trains and earlier closing at the Richmond council car parks. Each day has its own event page.
Weather
Grass car parks (some of the school fields and scout sites) get soft in a wet November. If it has rained all week, the tarmac car parks are worth the extra: the church car park on Erncroft Way, Chase Bridge and Egerton Road near the ground, Arragon Road in town. Each car park page describes the surface where we know it.
Christmas week and the Big Game
Harlequins' Big Game at the end of December is a full house with a festive crowd and its own event page. The West car park is closed in the run-up to Christmas, so the stadium's own parking is thinner than usual; book the community car parks.
The autumn plan
- Book the car park the day you get the tickets: pick your match.
- Choose the side of the ground you will leave from: driving to Twickenham.
- Be parked two hours before kick-off; earlier for a finals weekend: matchday timeline.
- Wear the coat, pick a pub on your side: pubs and food.

Questions drivers ask
- When are the autumn internationals at Twickenham?
- The next autumn fixtures at Twickenham are: England v Australia (Sun, 8 Nov 2026); England v Japan (Sat, 14 Nov 2026); England v New Zealand (Sat, 21 Nov 2026); Nations Championship Finals – Friday (Fri, 27 Nov 2026); Nations Championship Finals – Saturday (Sat, 28 Nov 2026); Nations Championship Finals – Sunday (Sun, 29 Nov 2026). Each has a parking page with the car parks that are open for it and which ones still have spaces.
- How early should I book parking for an autumn international?
- For the biggest fixtures (New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, a finals weekend) the car parks within 10 minutes of the gates sell out one to two weeks before, and most of the rest in the last few days. Book when you get your match tickets. For the smaller autumn matches there are usually spaces in the week before.
- What time do autumn internationals kick off?
- They vary: lunchtime, mid-afternoon and 4.40pm evening kick-offs are all used, sometimes on the same weekend. The evening ones mean walking back to the car in the dark and cold, with the roads reopening around 8.30pm.
- Is it cold parking at Twickenham in November?
- Yes. A 20-minute walk to a Whitton car park at 7pm in late November is a coat-and-gloves job, and the car is the warm place to wait for the traffic. Car parks with toilets and a tea urn are worth the extra few pounds in November.
